Leaving Yuma

Image
A Christmas full moon These are our last few days in Yuma. On Thursday we will be moving to Tucson. I have mixed feelings as we are leaving some people we have totally enjoyed. The time with Evelyn and Kevin is always fun and now we have new friends too. Martha and Brad who have shown us the way in Algodones Mexico, Bob and Marie and Dick and Wanda. It has been a nice group to get to know and spend our holidays with. The park has been filled with activities and we have enjoyed this RV resort probably more than any we have spent time in. I’m still a campground kinda’ girl but this park has made me think about what we will do when our travels are over. If we return to Yuma it will be most likely to this park. Our group at our favorite restauarant in Algadones Mexico, Rancharito! Merry Christmas with friends! All the tents in the background a are Tamale vendors One Saturday we went with Brad and Marthat to the Tamale Festival in Sommerton AZ. I wasn't tha

My Christmas Wish

Image
Sunset over Yuma This Christmas what I really want is  for the words spoken by the angels “Peace on Earth and goodwill toward men.” There is so little of it right now. If you listen to the news, read the paper, or pay attention to the internet what I see is people who wish each other ill, who say hateful things about those they disagree with. I see people who believe guns are the answer to whatever problem exists, not just having them but using them on each other. I see how poorly we treat those in need, who are poor, sick, or homeless. What I really want is for all Christians to remember what the Christ child would ask of us: to feed the hungry, take care of the sick, love your neighbor as yourself (and I believe he meant this in the global sense). In conflict, Jesus asked us to love others and to turn the other cheek if we were wronged. In His ministry He didn’t see people with the labels (black, white, Jew, or Gentile, poor, wealthy), He saw them all as people he loved. I

Home

Image
"Home" in Yuma I've been thinking about home lately and what that really is. As a full time RVer there really is no "place" that we call home. I was reminded of an assignment that my son Gabe was given in middle school. It was a descriptive writing piece on your "home". Now Gabe doesn't necessarily think like other people and he rails against conventional definitions. Gabe informed his teacher that his home had nothing to so with the "house" that he lived in but rather the people that he lived with and were the core of his life and he refused to write the paper in deference to the fact that the instructions were wrong. If she wanted a description of the house he lived in that is what she should have stated in the instructions. Some of this was just the bluster of a middle schooler but what he said had merit though this teacher did not want to hear it. I agree with Gabe that home isn't the house itself but the people in that house

Happy Thanksgiving!

Image
Johns says Hi from our site here in Yuma We want to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving from here in sunny Yuma. I always get a little bit nostalgic this time of year. These holidays are the times I miss my kids the most. Mitch our youngest is off to Seattle WA to visit a good friend while his daughter spends the holiday with her mom. He and his friend Caleb were stuck in the airport last I heard waiting out a delay. The challenges of traveling this time of year can be frustrating. Gabe is back in Early working and we hope he has a good day. Melissa is in CR with her mom. We are trying to solve a car issue for them and it has been a long go but we are hoping it will be solved soon . Thankful every day for these two. My heros. Speaking of cars, John and I are particularly thankful this year for friends Mike and Trudy Woods. Mike has gone way beyond the call to help us and I get a little teary when I think of how blessed I am to have friends like them. They live  life alway

New laptop and finally back to the blog

Image
Well, I tried learning Word Press but it also did not work well with the iPad and since we had found a couple other things we can't seem to accomplish in the tablet format we decided to bite the bullet and get a new laptop. Costco was running a special so here I am finally blogging again. I am having to learn Windows 10 but I am getting there. This is the first Windows pc we have had in a long time. I have to say Macs are a little more intuitive but I know I can figure this out with a little time. So now I can blog without wanting to throw my devices out the window. We are currently in Yuma at Fortuna De Oro, a Cal-Am resort. We have been here about 2 weeks and are enjoying ourselves. This is a busy place, always something to do. Our friends Kevin and Evelyn ( Chronicles of Kevelyn ) are here too and that makes it even better.  There has been some pickle ball playing, a trip into Los Algodones Mexico and lots of happy hours. One thing I will say for this park is there are lots of

Post and changes

Hi  everyone just posted right before this but had to publish without many of the photos. I am encountering numerous issues with blogger. It doesn't want to play well with my iPad nor my kindle fire so I have made a decision to move the blog to Word Press. I am usually able to post text on blogger so when I get th site going and make the first post I will post a link here. My frustrations with blogger are part of why I haven't been posting much. I am hoping this move will work well. I read there is a little bit of a learning curve with Word Press but I am sure I can figure this out. Until then Happy Trails.....................

Fall has arrived

Image
The summer flew by and we are most certainly into fall and I am ready to head south. We have had a beautiful fall here in Iowa which has made staying later than usual an ok thing but its definitely turning cooler. Work didn't end until mid September because the Kernels (minor league A) made all the way to the championship game in their league. We didn't win that series but it was fun to watch them thru the playoffs. We don't plan on working next summer because it just didn't work well with our granddaughter's schedule since she is in daycare every day now and we felt we just didn't get enough Evie time. We will miss the people we work with as that was the best part of this job. Next year we will just have to visit them while they work!   Grandparents Day at Daycare  Time with Gabe and Melissa. The other activity consuming our time has been the renovation of the rig which is an ongoing project. We have come a long way. We have new hickory

Summer 2015

Image
Evie encouraging John to go down the slide I know I have been terribly absent from the blog but there is something about staying put in one area that really saps my blogging mojo. Enough for the excuses now what have we been up to in the last couple of months. How do you like my hat? It's been a summer much like the last with working at the Kernels (A minor league ball) ballpark as ushers, spending time with our granddaughter and enjoying the county parks here around Cedar Rapids. Now to the things that have changed or almost changed. When we first got here we considered staying the winter. I admit to feeling guilty about not being around to help my son Mitch more. We actually started looking for an apartment and such but when it came right down to it, I just couldn't do it. The thought of being here in the winter was just a little depressing and I was afraid if we did, we wouldn't get moving again and our full timer days would be over. I am just not ready f

Lake Powell and Page AZ part2

Image
We are back in Iowa for the summer. It's always busy when we get here and this year is no different. So let the games begin! Our trip home was a fast one with stops in Durango CO, Loveland CO, Grand Island NE, Omaha NE and then to Storm Lake IA.  All of that before landing here in Cedar Rapids IA. We finally got a cable and card reader for the iPad. Yippee! I am back in business with photos. I am storing them on the Amazon Cloud where as Prime members we have unlimited photo storage. We visited so many fun places this spring it took me awhile to get them up and edited. What I have decided to do is to revisit the places we have been and finally post on the rest of our spring travels. Today I want to post some more photos of Lake Powell and share some about Antelope Canyon in Page AZ. Houseboat at Lake Powell As I said in the last post, Lake Powell is worth the stop. Someday I would love to do a house boat trip here. They say fall is the best time and that they run sp
