Bullards Beach

 We've moved up the coast again about 80 miles to Bullards Beach State Park near Bandon OR. We probably will be here until we move to our work camping spot for Heceta Lighthouse. There we will be staying at the Carl Washburn State Park.

We have been so lucky with the weather until now. The coast is moving into its more normal wet weather pattern for this time of year. The temps have dropped into the 40 and it rained most of the night. Rain is in the forecast for the whole next week. 

 We were able to get moved yesterday without any rain and after set up we took of on a nice walk. This park is lovely. The A and B loops are closed for the season and there are not as many FHU sites in C loop so we took a wonderful w/e site knowing we can use the blueboy  if necessary. We can always make the black tank last but the grey tank may need to be emptied at least once.

Today we decided to find somewhere with wifi. We are at a little coffee shop and since coffee is a favorite of ours we are enjoying our afternoon. I think we will enjoy our stay here even with the rain. :)

    I volunteered at the Bandon Fish Hatchery in December of 2007. You are in a beautiful area.

    Looks like a beautiful place. We're looking forward to hearing how the lighthouse work camping goes. Its something I would be interested in doing someday.

    A friend of ours used to work at Washburne and did a lot of clearing of the trails there. You will enjoy it there!

Back in Iowa and changes ahead

The Birthday Girl! I've been contemplating this post ever since we arrive back in Iowa. We got here by way of Smith Center KS where we had some work done at the Excel Service Center. A new air conditioner, gray tank, slide seals and adjustment and we were on our way.  They do a great job there but it was definitely a bill. Our spot outside the bay at the service center I'm 4!! Add caption We arrived back in Iowa in time for both John's birthday and our granddaughter Evie's 4th birthday. It has been so great to see her, Mitch and Jen again. Soon we hope to see our older son Gabe and his wife Melissa. They live in NW Iowa and hope to make it here in a couple weeks. It's also good to see old friends again. Time for me to learn to drive this rig.

Trail at Squaw Creek park Yesterday we moved back to Morgan Creek park (about a 15 mile drive) and I drove the rig! We have always said that I needed to start doing this but I never seem to do it. The first year I think John just felt he needed to get proficient at all the driving & parking things before he had me do it and then we just got lazy. It was just easier for him to do it. Recently friends of our that we met in Tucson, John and Terri had a very harrowing experience that reminded us why we both need to be able to drive this rig. John they think had a seizure while driving, luckily not towing but still it is amazing that they survived it. What this meant is that now Terri had to do the driving back to their former home town Sacramento and like me she had not done much driving. She did great and they are now coming off the road and starting a new phase of life. All of John's test look good so far and we wish him the best and hope that it was just a one time isolated...

Fort Walton Beach and Destin, Florida

Our beach on the Emeradl Coast We are nicely settled in here at the Destin West RV Resort. There are a few draw backs to this resort but the advantages far out way them. It is situated on Okaloosa Island that is a long narrow island between Fort Walton beach and Destin. This resort is part of a complex of condos and the Ramada Inn so we have privileges for the pools and workout center at the Ramada which is a big plus. The RV resort is on the bay side of the island and the Ramada is on the Gulf side. Just a little ways from us by the condo is a pedestrian walkway across the busy Miracle Strip Parkway that runs the length of the island. That little bridge across is a great advantage. It gives us access to the beautiful beaches of the Emerald Coast on the Gulf without risking our lives getting across the road. At the resort on the bay side is a pool they keep very warm (about 90 degrees), some picnic tables and an area where you can launch your kayaks if you wish. We haven’t done...
